Top Liposuction Considerations When Picking A Surgeon

by Lawrence Warner

Laser liposuction has helped the liposuction industry in becoming the most popular form of cosmetic surgery. Now before going in for any type of plastic surgery, it is important to go over what your goals are and what you expect coming out of the surgery room. How well the procedure turns out is really in the hands of the surgeon. A properly trained and experienced doctor is an important factor in reducing the chances of complications arising during the surgery, as well as ensuring optimal post-procedure recovery.

The best surgeons will take your condition into consideration before making any treatment suggestions. They value the safety and health of their clients before selling their services and that is the type of care you need for such a serious procedure. These things are hard to measure, but credentials are easy to measure. Make sure they are board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and have enough experience in laser liposuction, traditional liposuction, and plastic surgery in general.

While nothing, not even a certification, can guarantee the best results, it greatly increases your chances because the surgeons will have gone through specific and rigorous education and training in the field of plastic surgery.

Thoroughly do your homework. Review the surgeon's credentials, education, and training. A surgeon who has all the proper credentials and a good history of success stories will be proud to show you his certifications. The type of certification is also important.

The American Board of Medical Specialties designates the most credible of boards such as the American Board of Plastic Surgery. That is the kind of certification you want your surgeon to have. Many self-designated boards exist to dilute the pool of qualified doctors with lesser credible certifications. Some doctors will have a cosmetic surgery certification but it could be in an unrelated field such as dental surgery.

Ask about the type of equipment that will be used, where the procedure will be done, and how long it the procedure will last as well as how long is the average recovery time after the surgery. Does the recovery time conflict with other commitments in your life? Can you afford to a take ample time off work for proper healing if you have major work done? The doctor should provide a pre and postoperative instruction guide that you can follow to reduce the risk of complications.

During your consultation, ask to see some samples of previous clients who have had similar treatment. Most clinics keep a file of before and after pictures you can browse through. This way you have a better idea as to what you can expect as well as which discover some things that you never thought of.

If at any point you feel the consultation has turned into a hard-sell by the doctor, it is time to walk out. A caring doctor will understand the pressure of deciding whether liposuction surgery is the right move is something that will take time and patience.

Beware of Low Cost Liposuction Procedure

by Greg Pritchard

When shopping for cosmetic surgeons, it's important to consider the hidden costs of bargain clinics. Firstly, because of lower prices, most surgeons that compete on price make up for their thinner margins through volume. That means they are more likely to tell you that you are a candidate for their services. It's important for the individual to do their own research and consult with a variety of surgeons. And if you are being price conscious, it's best not to go too far from the median because you begin to take on unforeseen risks once the price falls too far below average. For your reference, the average cost of liposuction in the abdominals should be between $4,000 and $8,000.

If you feel it absolutely necessary and can't afford it in one payment, then ask your surgeon about payment plans. Sure you wreck your finances; it doesn't have to be permanent. But wrecking your body by destroying fat cells naturally given to you by birth is permanent.

Many of the low prices in advertisements don't disclose the fact that they are only quoting one of the three fees. There are two other charges that will be added to your total bill which they won't tell you. You will be billed for the amount of anesthesia used as well as facility fees depending on the equipment that is needed for the procedure.

Anesthesia fees usually vary from $500 to $1,000 depending on the dosage your surgeon thinks you need for the size of the area. And facility fees, depending on the number areas where you'd like liposuction performed, range from $600 to $1,200. These make up two of the three charges in all plastic surgery procedures. The rest of the cost is the surgeon's fee.

Some advertised discounts fail to mention that you will not be getting a board certified anesthesiologist but a nurse. Some advertise board certified cosmetic surgeons but have surgeons in dentistry, gynecology, or just a general practitioner. Make sure your surgeon is not without a board certification in plastic surgery.

Trying to find a bargain should be one of the last considerations since surgery is such a serious procedure. In fact, you probably can't help the price because liposuction prices vary according to the cosmetic surgery market of the region, the skill of the surgeon, and the amount of work you want done.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons recently put out a warning that the quality of care and safety cannot be compromised by those considering plastic surgery during the economic downturn. It states that patients should proceed carefully prior to putting their health and physical bodies in the hands of anyone who is not qualified to perform surgery. But you already knew that didn't you?
